Critique

During the critique, the feedback I had received was:

  • Try variations of color
  • Have plane moving from left to right (slowly)
  • Have the door whip open for a more cartoon-ish effect
  • Use of boiling for plane and clouds was effective. Try adding it to the name at the end.
  • Add strong to the main character.
  • Have character with more accurate proportions. Everything is too similar.
  • Animation overall needs more personality.

Week 16 Final Animation

Although I had followed my storyboard almost exactly, I had run into a lot of different problems that made me alter some scenes quite a bit. After enjoying my green monochrome color scheme, I thought carrying it across all my scenes would be effective. It would be a different sort of aesthetic from the rest of my projects. Since it's supposed to be a cartoon-y kind of animation, I felt like adding the green splatters rather than a reddish color would keep the tone more whimsical and fun. In addition to this, I tried adding action lines as the character is flapping his arms to give the illusion of quick movements.

Week 15

In class I had received feedback on 50% of my finished animation. Some of the feedback I had received was:

  • Refrain from using effects. Keep all elements hand-drawn if I want to use an effect.
  • Redraw moving elements instead of shifting them through Adobe Animate.
  • Good job at keeping boiling is kept to a minimum.
Unfortunately I didn't have too much to show as I scrapped the scene I had shown in my previous post. After trying to animate the character leaping out of the plane countless times, nothing had really looked right so I scraped it entirely. I decided to take a different approach and have the character jumping out of the plane from the start instead of showing an inside view.

Week 14 Outside of Class

Outside of class I began working more on my animation. To recap, my animation will be about a skydiver jumping out of a plane, missing his parachute he lands on the ground and splatters. The splatters will spell out my name. Below are two in-progress shots of the animation. The character will do a squat before leaping out of the plane to incorporate anticipation into my animation.

Week 13 Outside of Class

Outside of class, I began working on my animation. I'm pretty excited for this animation now, as I found a way to keep my hand-drawn elements very still in a frame-by-frame animation compared to what it was like when I had rotoscoped. I've also started playing with the different effects in the program. In the next scene, it will show a target on the ground where the person will try to land. When the camera pans down, it will quickly blur all elements in the scene such as the plane and clouds as they move upwards. This scene still isn't finished, but now I can really get moving on this animation since I learned a lot of useful tricks from tutorials.

Week 12 Outside of Class

Outside of class I storyboarded what my next possible animation would look like. It would be a little more humorous compared to my last project. For this assignment, we need to have some way to animate our name, and it must include in a character. I thought of having a man jumping out of an airplane to land on a target, but completely misses and hits the ground. When he hits the ground, he'll splat which will spell out my name. It'll be very cartoony and goofy, using sound effects and funny style too.
